Background
The Behaviour Management Systems Autism Awareness Program was developed as a result of requests from educators and agency clients for a program that would assist staff members becoming familiar with the challenges and opportunities encountered when working with children and youth with autism.

Focus
Our program is designed to increase awareness of the issues involved when working with young people on the ASD spectrum. It is not designed to produce autism experts. What the program does provide is increased awareness of concepts such as:

Developed by an Ontario High Needs Resource Teacher with qualifications and extensive experience programming for children with autism in educational settings.

Includes a variety of related Tip Sheets to assist with effective programming for students with autism.

A.Participant Program:

Available to all staff.

Delivered by employer’s Autism Awareness Trainers or BMS Master Trainers.

Requires a half day presentation – 2.5 to 3 hours.

Attendees receive an AAP Certificate of Participation and are included in the BMS database.

B.Trainer Program:

Available to:

all current BMS Trainers
-
board and client autism specialist staff who have taken BMS Practitioner training

other board staff (CYW’s, psychologists, social workers, etc.) on approval of Program Director

Designed to prepare AAP Trainers to deliver the half day Autism Awareness Program.

Requires a full day presentation – 5 to 6 hours.

Attendees receive an AAP Trainer Certificate and are included in the BMS Database.
